  1. Would any damage be done by taking Epsom Salts every morning?
Apart from the obvious toilet effects!!!

I read about it in a magazine, used as cleansing technique by detox/ weight loss by some places.

  2. Can you gain weight by soaking in a bath?
I weigh myself each morning. I find that on the evenings I take a long hot bath (without getting my hair wet), I weigh 1-2 pounds more the next day than if I hadn’t taken a bath. My weight is stable except for the nights I take a bath. What is happening here? Is my skin soaking up water and then losing it slowly over the next day or two? I’ve read a lot of conjecture on here and other sites, but I’d like to see some HARD FACTS or LINKS on whether your skin can soak up 1-2 pounds of water in a bath or not.
I care because I’m curious, not because I care about gaining 1-2 pounds …

    • I would say “no,” and here’s why:

Other sites say baths can lead to weight loss:

“Soak in an extremely hot bath for 30 minutes. The bath water will cause the excess water from your tissues to seep out. The heat will increase your sweating and water evaporation from your lungs,” leading to weight loss” (http://weightloss.about.com/c/ht/00/07/Lose_1_5_Pounds0962933783.htm ).

And from another site, the idea that hot baths can lead to weight loss: “Dr. Hyman believes that by taking a 20-minute hot bath before bed – and adding Epsom salts, baking soda and lavender oil to the water – you will lower stress hormone levels. He claims that by lowering your stress hormones, you can detox your body, boost your metabolism, and potentially lose weight. Wow, all this just from taking a hot bath!” (http://www.thismamacooks.com/2008/06/take-a-hot-bath.html ).

So here’s what I suggest: Maybe you’re being misled by a faulty cause and effect fallacy. Maybe there’s some other reason you’re taking a bath on those nights that is linked to the weight gain. Are you more likely to take baths during times of PMS (bloating, weight gain)? Do you take a bath during times when you’re feeling stressed (stress hormones, lower metabolism)? Or, do you get out of the tub and snack on a big bowl of ice cream? I suspect something other than the warm tub is raising the weight, if there truly is a pattern of weight gain after bathing.

PS: One other thing comes to mind; in the hot summer heat my fingers swell. I wonder if heat, whether in the air or in the tub, can cause some people to swell up? Nothing online suggested that, but it seems worth consideration. Good luck in your search! :)

  3. Does this sound like a healthy weight loss plan..?
Today I did a 24 hour water detox.
Tomorrow I’m eating only raw fruits and vegetables (also part of detoxing)
Thursday I’m just eating healthy & taking an epsom salt/baking soda bath to also complete the detox program.
Friday I am eating “breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.”
I gave up all drinks except water of course, and orange juice I can have one glass on Sundays.

Then afterwards, I’ll just be eating super healthy and exercising for about an hour everyday.

    What do ya think? (:

    • Well I would hope after this detox, you would go down the path of eating healthy. Your breakfast, lunch, and dinner references were too vague for me to know for sure. You should also add some healthy snacks to your day as well and once you finish detox you really need to add exercise. Detox should be more about breaking yourself into, or back into, a healthy eating weight loss.

  4. Period after only 1 Depo shot?
I had only one shot of Depo. That was in June. So that means it wore off in September. Its now November and I still Haven’t seen Aunt Flo. Has anybody only had one shot of Depo, or maybe a few? How long did it take for your period to get back to normal?

  5. Can you recommend a simple 7-day detox routine for your body?
I know of epsom salt baths and skin brushing, can you recommend any other simple things and what diet to have during that week. I am not interested in losing weight, just cleansing my body.
Lisa i will let you know when i find out!

    • Today there are many people who are turning to a detox and weight loss diet to help them loose the weight they need to get rid of. However, sadly some of them turn to fad diets for detox instead of good detox diets that really help them to get rid of the weight while helping to detox their body. So, you may be wondering, are these detox diets for weight loss really safe? Well, let’s take a closer look at these diets, how they work, and whether or not they are really effective.

Basically a detox and weight loss diet is used to help get rid of all the toxic chemicals that are in the body. Some of these diets include drinks and others require that you give up sugar and carbs for a certain amount of time. Usually after you have cleansed your body, you are allowed to add these foods back into your diets, but only in a limited amount. So, basically these diet focus on drinking a lot and eating a small amount so that you can cleanse out the body and rid the body of the toxins.

The reason that a detox and weight loss diet can be effective is because the toxins that are in your body can not only be harmful to your health, but they can also make it more difficult to lose weight loss as well. Toxins are not supposed to be in the body, and many of the toxins that get there get in through what we inhale, drink, and eat. Often then end up making people sick and they can also keep people from losing the weight that they need to as well. So, avoiding all the things that contribute toxins to the body and eating natural foods is a great way to start getting rid of these toxins so that you are able to lose weight.

  6. Does Sea kelp (taken in vitamins) improve hair growth and weight loss?
I have purchased some Sea Kelp tablets to help my hair to grow (im not too patient) but I heard it can help with weightloss too? How so?
    Thank youuu

    • I’m going to disagree with the first reply, as I think sea kelp is a fantastic supplement for your body, high in iron and vitamins it has been proven to shake up your metabolism (creating faster weight loss) as for hair growth im not sure.

Part of the Japanese diet is sea kelp naturally and they have the lowest weight and longest lives. I add seaweed to my bath with epsom salts to detox, helps cleanse my skin and absorb the minerals for my metabolism.

  7. Apple Juice Detox??? BEST ANSWER = 10 PTS For Sure!?
My mom and I want to do an Apple juice detox, but we are not quite sure what to do. I would like to do it for about 5 days, but I also get hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) very easily, so any recommendations on what I should do? Doing this for weight loss and cleansing. Please, don’t tell me “Oh don’t do it! it doesn’t work!” I want to find that out on my own. If you have done this yourself, please tell me what I should do, when I should do it, and any unpleasant side effects! Thank you so much! 10 points best answer guaranteed!
IT IS JUST DRINKING APPLE JUICE! NO PILLS INVOLVED!! JUST PURE, ORGANIC, UNPRESSED, UNSWEETENED APPLE JUICE!

    • I have done an apple juice liver/gallbladder cleanse a few times and intend to start them back up. I, too, struggle with hypoglycemia. Honestly, I had to get my hypoglycemia under control before I could ever have done these cleanses. It took me a good 2 years of eating whole foods, every 2-3 hours. However, I’m not sure to what extent you suffer from hypoglycemia, so I will let you know about the cleanse in case you believe you can do it.

It requires drinking apple juice for 6 days – 1 32 oz bottle each day. Sip it throughout the day except before, during, or up to 2 house after meals. Drink water as well. Foods and liquids should be room temperature. Try to avoid fried foods/junk foods, etc.

On the 6th day – drink all your 32 oz of apple juice in the morning. Eat light meals only this day (oatmeal, rice, etc) (side note – due to my hypoglycemia, i eat a normal breakfast and lunch). Avoid oils, butters, etc. Do not eat or drink anything except water after 1:30 p.m.

6:00 p.m. – drink 1 TBSP epsom salts in 6 oz water (it’s nasty – if you can’t stand it use 2.5 oz of magnesium citrate)
8:00 p.m. – drink 2nd helping of 1 TBSP epsom salts in 6 oz water.

9:45 p.m. – squeeze either grapefruit or lemon/orange to make 6 oz of juice. remove pulp, pour juice and 4 oz olive oil into a jar w/ a lid, shake it hard until watery

10:00 p.m – stand next to your bed and try to drink it w/o stopping. lie down immediately – flat on your back w/ head elevated or on right side w/ knees pulled toward head. lie still for 20 minutes. try to go to sleep

      the following morning:
      6:30 a.m. – drink your 3rd glass of epsom salt & water

8:30 am – drink your 4th glass of epsom salt & water

10:30 a.m. – you can drink some juice or eat some fruit. within an hour have regular food

      *******
that’s the cleanse I do, but honestly, i only do the epsom salts in the evening, i don’t do it in the morning. just do what your own body can handle … you can always do it again at a later time (a month later) and work up to the actual cleanse

  8. How to get started ona detox diet?
I would like to go on a detox diet, which I have never done before, as I have heard that would clear up my system and skin….can anyone suggest a diet chart and how to get started on that one…..

    • I use a detox program called Isagenix. It is a gentle cleansing system that helps with energy, skin and weight loss.
There are not only toxins in our food but in our environment as well. It is a great idea to detox, Drink lots and lots of water. Epsom salts baths and infrared saunas also help detoxify from the outside

  9. i need some suggestions on cleanse or a detox?
i need to lose allot of weight and i want to start by cleaning out my system any recipes or premade cleanses or detox

    • Well for a one shot deal try a tablespoon of epsom salt in warm water with a little lemon to mask the flavor. Drink a lot of water. Walk around your house and about 20-30 mins later you’ll be in the bathroom flushing out a lot of crap! For the next couple of days eat only raw fruits and veggies. Cilantro is a wonderful detoxifier. Eat it raw (organic). I also like the yogi detox tea’s.

Also look into virgin coconut oil…this is a great natural detox that works by improving your thyroid which help a lot in weight loss. It has a ton of health benefits! Check it out on earthclinic.com

  10. I just thought I would help those out that were on the Depo-provera and are now ttc. This article explains how?
Depo can stay in your system up to 18mos to help get it out this website suggested these steps

1 Drink LOTS of water: We all know there many health benefits of drinking water. Besides clear skin and weight loss, drinking at least 64 ounces per day can help rid the body of toxins and expel waste stored in the bodies tissue and prevent disease. Adding fresh squeezed lemon to water can help flush toxins out of the body because lemons are a natural diuretic.

Step 2Exercise: At least 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity a day helps increase the blood flow to the organs, muscles and tissues. Exercise helps endorphin levels rise and remove toxins from the body. Sweating also helps remove waste and toxins. Daily walks outside in the fresh air also help the detoxification process.

Step 3 Eat 6-11 (or more!) servings of fruit and vegetables a day: High in fiber to help move your bowels and loaded with anti-oxidants to help your body defend itself from any damaging toxins that enter it. Make sure you wash your produce well or chose organic if possible.

Step 4 Try Acupuncture: A form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that helps rid the body of drug toxins by balancing the body and the mind.

Step 5 Try a colon cleanse: A form of alternative medicine that removes feces and toxins from the colon and intestinal tract. Colon cleansers are composed of a combination of fiber, herbs, supplements and laxatives and can be purchased at your local health food store. Use as directed.

Step 6 Drink detox tea: A combination of herbs used to rid the body of toxins by supporting liver and kidney function. Detox teas are organic and caffeine free and can be found in your local supermarket or health food store.

Step 7Take a detox bath: Soak in a warm bath for 30 minutes with 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of Epsom salt. This helps the body eliminate toxins through the skin. After the bath you will feel refreshed and your skin will be soft and smooth. Rinse off with a cool shower.

Step8Relax in a sauna: Heavy metals and toxins are expelled through the the skin as we sweat. Sitting in a sauna for 10 minutes helps open the pours and detoxifies the body. Consult your health care professional before trying a sauna detox.

Step 9Take Probiotics: Also known as “good bacteria” that are necessary for digestive system health. Probiotics have been said to strengthen the immune system, allowing the body to fight off allergies, exposure to toxins and other diseases. Probiotics can be taken in supplement form, yogurt or shakes.
it’s usually people on the shot not the pill the shot causes the problems cause it leaves stuff behind and does not clear your system

    • I personally went on the pill for two months to “jump start” my period again after DEPO (on it for three years). It worked for me…I got pregnant the second month after stopping the pill. So I got pregnant pretty quickly after stopping the shot compared to most people.

  11. Has anyone tried the master cleanse is it only for over wieght people?
I have been lookin into the master cleanse for awhile and it seems like that extra boost I need. I dont really need to loose weight maybe just a little bit on my stomach. I am also trying to gain weight, when i say weight I mean muscle mass. But I wouldnt mind having that extra energy also I have been eating alot healthier No fast foods, No soda, & no chocolate or candy. Are there other benefits besides wieght loss sorry for the length of questions thanks

    • I havent tried the master cleanse but I researched it too on the internet. It is basically a detox for your body, I think. But there are healthier ways of doing that without starving yourself and only drinking liquids for two weeks! Try doing a healthier detox which will give you energy and lift weights and do resistance training to gain muscle mass.

For my detox, I ate lots of fiber and protein like salmon. Drink water with some lemon juice, talke vitamins(omega fish oil, probiotics) and soak yourself in a warm bath with epsom salt to get rid of toxins in your body. You’re doing great so far with eating healthier and not drinking soda!

Also, green tea is good for you. It is a good source of antioxidant which will benefit you!

  12. Detoxifying and Cleansing?
What are the best detox and cleansing kits out? I have a few health related issues and with weight gain, I want to do the best thing for my health and body. By personal experiences what would you recommend as the best detox kit or product?

    • I use a detox program called Isagenix. It is a gentle cleansing system that helps with energy, skin and weight loss.
There are not only toxins in our food but in our environment as well. It is a great idea to detox, Drink lots and lots of water. Epsom salts baths and infrared saunas also help detoxify from the outside

  13. have you ever tried the epsom salt bath to help detox your body?
I have really struggled with my weight since i had my baby. he is almost 2. I had so much extra weight on me post baby. I have never had a weight problem in my life but i am in my mid 30′s and have a sit down job all day. I have lost all but 35 pounds and would really like to lose within 4 months for summer. Now I’m at a standstill on my weight loss. Someone told me to rid my body of toxins by having a HOT epsom salt bath. Just would like to hear other ppl who have tried it to know if it really works.

    • Our body is not full of toxins.

“There are so many contradictions in the detox theory that it is laughable. For starters, the idea that some foods are poisonous and others are not is misleading and factually incorrect.”

Dr Roger Clements, a chemist at the USC school of pharmacy, said tests have proved that no extra toxins were expelled from the body on detox diets and that suggesting the digestive system needs a break is ludicrous.

“We have this wonderful thing called a liver and gastrointestinal tract which is quite long,” he says. “Between them, these two manage everything shovelled into our bodies quite well. We are not made to give the system a rest.”

While retailers celebrate the arrival of the “detox season”, health specialists say that people’s drive to purge their bodies of toxins can, in fact, be harmful.

Catherine Collins, chief dietician at St George’s Hospital in southwest London, said she saw dozens of patients suffering side-effects ranging from bowel problems to potassium depletion. “There is a fixation with the notion that we can detoxify the body through what we eat and drink, but the whole idea has no scientific basis,” said Dr Collins.

  14. I’m going to do a water detox?
I’m going to go on a water detox. I’ll drink nothing but water for the next 5 days. It’s just to cleanse my colon (I heard that lots of people have parasites there, so I’m trying to “clean out”), and to flush out toxins. I’m NOT doing this for weight loss though. I don’t plan on doing heavy exercise. I’m just going to take my dog on his normal 20 minute walk around the block everyday. ***Is it possible that I will pass out (that’s what I’m worried about.)*** Other than that, I WILL do the detox no matter what. (and don’t tell me this isn’t safe or anything. Every doctor has their own opinion on it. And you have your own.)
