  1. Epsom salt sitz bath and pregnancy?
Not sure if I had lost my plug (revert to http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AimcH8f6dpsXowS_6J.VIg_sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090503101739AAmSv84), would it still be okay to take an epsom salt sitz bath (for hemorrhoids)? I know it’s encouraged to not take baths after you lose your plug, but just asking just in case. I want to know what you people know and have experienced, rather than to call my doctor right away, so before I do that, please don’t tell me to. Thanks in advance!
I’ve tried everything. As far as the bath goes, I don’t have the sitz tub, but I will be doing one in just the bathtub which seeing how this is for hemorrhoids, the water will in fact be high enough to reach my vagina lol.

    • The sitz bath shouldn’t be high enough to enter your vagina, let alone travel up to your uterus and get near the baby. Also, your bag of waters hasn’t broken, so that’s yet another barrier. I think it’d be fine. Have you tried the tucks pads? That’s what I’ve used so far since hot baths are generally a no no during pregnancy.

    • A hemorrhoid is a inflamed vein that on your rectum that is caused by the extra pressure when pregnant. They are more ugly and annoying then anything, I had one when I was pregnant. Check with your doc about what tropicals to use but sitting in a warm Epsom salt bath for about 20 minutes help them shrink. To be honest it wont go away till after the baby and you usually get a few more from the pushing during labor. After labor sitz bath, Prep H and which hazel pads will get rid of the booger

    • two things you can try 1 is a sitz bath which is water as warm as you can stand it mixed with epsom salt. at a pharmacy you can buy a special thing to use for the sitz bath. also hemorrhoid ointment does not help in relieving the discomfort of hemorrhoids , what does work is hydrocortisone ointment and vitamin A and D ointment make sure it is ointment not cream

  2. Any suggestions for anal pain?
Okay, so this is really gross, but today I’ve been having anal pain along with some leakage. It kinda feels like a burn or dry-skin, and it makes it hard to walk. I’ve had it so far for about 2 and a half hours, and its getting annoying. I thought I would ask before work. I’m a 17 year old girl, slightly overweight. I was diagnosed with IBS(irritable bowl syndrome) three years ago.

    • sounds like hemorrhoids. read this http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/digestive-disease-hemorrhoids

when it says sitz bath i was told to do it with epsom salt mixed in with the water and it helps a lot. fair warning it stings when you sit in the water with it in it but it sure does help a lot. as for preparation h it is useless use hydro cortisone ointment (it must be ointment not cream) and vitamin a and d ointment ( again must be ointment not cream)

  3. how do you get rid of internal hemorrhoids?

      For relief of Hemorrhoidal Discomfort
Prevent or correct constipation. Eat plenty of high-fiber foods including bran, fresh fruits and vegetables. Drink plenty of water and other fluids. Also, psyllium-containing products and stool softeners may be helpful. Include exercise in your daily routine.

Avoid straining during defecation or sitting on the toilet for a prolonged period of time.

If hemorrhoids extend outside the anal canal, ice compresses may ease the swelling.

Sitting in warm water for approximately 15 minutes at a time may ease the symptoms. Adding Epsom salt to the water helps relieve the inflammation. Sitz baths taken several times a day will also provide a soothing effect.

Prior to administering any medication, the anal area should be cleansed gently with warm water by dabbing—not wiping—the area. Avoid scented and colored tissue. The use of moistened cleansing tissues is recommended.

Do not sit for prolong periods of time. Take short walks or stand and stretch periodically.

Avoid any activities that require heavy lifting of objects.

Avoid foods and drinks that may make hemorrhoids worse, including spicy food, nuts, coffee and alcohol.

Contact your physician if your symptoms do not improve after seven days of self-treatment. Also, notify your physician promptly if bleeding, seepage or severe pain occurs.

Do not use over-the-counter products that contain a vasoconstrictor (e.g., ephedrine, epinephrine, phenylephrine HCI) if you have any of the following: cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, difficulty in urination, or if you are taking an antidepressant medication.

  4. How to use witch hazel for hemorrhoids?
Please teach me, step by step. Should I just soak cotton balls in the liquid witch hazel and put them in the rectum? Wouldn’t it be painful as witch hazel contains alcohol?
Can I use the ones with alcohol??? Can I use it for internal hemorrhoids?

  5. I got hemorrhoids after giving birth and they won’t go away.?
It has been 10 days and they will start to get a bit better & then flare up again. I’m doing EVERYTHING: no pushing/straining, not constipated, witch hazel, tucks, sitz bath w/ epsom salts and lavender oil, taking vit B6, bilberry, vit C, and a fibre supplement…drinking lots of water, lying flat on my stomache to sleep… and they are still sooooo painful. Did anybody else have a hard time getting rid of them? What helped you and please tell me how long did it take????

    • My wife had one and her OB/GYN referred her to a proctologist. He removed it with a quick office procedure and she was good as new within a few days.

For some reason I got thumbs down for this answer in the past, but it’s the truth.

  6. What can I do to treat anal bleeding?
I am experiencing a steady bleeding in my anus that won’t stop. I noticed the blood after waking up in the morning and the blood has not stopped although it is several hours later. I noticed a painful lump a few days ago but no bleeding until today. I am out of town with no access to medical facilities for 2 days.

    • Hi. I think that what you are experiencing is a bleeding external hemorrhoid. Don’t worry about it. They aren’t dangerous unless they become infected or there is too much bleeding to control. You can take ibuprofen to decrease the swelling. You can take a sitz-bath, which is a warm bath with Epsom salts dissolved in. You should sit in it for 10 to 20min. You can also add oatmeal to soothe the pain. You can also sit on an ice pack for around 5min. Additionally, you could apply diluted cider vinegar to the hemorrhoid.

I would also recommend that you wear loose underwear and, if the bleeding is truly horrific, you could wear a sanitary pad. I’m sorry that you are having to deal with such an uncomfortable situation when you’re out of town! If the bleeding goes on for more than 7days, you have additional symptoms, or the pain in your anus is really, really bad, then see a doctor when you get back home. Feel better!

  7. Bad case of the hemorrhoids?
I recently got hemorrhoids (piles) about a week ago around Aug 13th. At first, it was just very itchy and I didn’t think much of it. I just tried not to bother the area down there as much, but the itchiness soon got worse so I decided to check down there to see what was up. And, thats when I saw this bean sized lump. I can’t tell if it was hanging out of my anus or right on the side, but in any case it was disgusting to look at. Unfortunately, I did not have any time to go to the doctor because I had to leave for London the very next day. So I decided to clean up down there as best as I could, and tried to be as careful as possible. Sadly, the situation got worse. As I was getting off in Philly from SF, I noticed a pretty rancid smell coming down there and when I checked it out in the bathroom I saw a decent amount of blood in the surrounding area and the lump had swollen some more. Weirdly enough, however, the itchiness was gone, and I felt no pain while walking or sitting down. I only felt a sharp pain when in the process of standing up or sitting down. My mom offered me an ointment she got from a doctor a few weeks ago, and I applied that on the plane while thoroughly cleaning out my anus and the surrounding area. The medicines effect was almost instant. The bleeding was still occuring, but the lump that was purple before turned back to a normal skin color and any kind of pain was non existant. I’ve also been eating a lot of vegetables, fruits, and whole grain wheats. I’ve also recently been taking Sitz baths with Epsom salt added, and also been taking 6 pills of Metamucil a day, and drinking a lot of water, while also drinking a lot of natural juices for Vitamin C and other nutrients. I honestly can’t tell if I even have lumps anymore except when I poop. And the bleeding has slowed down dramatically. Before, I used to have blood stains on my underwear, but now my underwear will only have a couple specks or nothing at all. Can someone please tell me if I still need to see the doctor? I don’t really have good insurance so I don’t know if I can see a doctor overseas, but if its urgent I will.

    • yes,I had ur situation many years ago, nothing helped me but drinking olive oil!
